Choosing the Right God Idol for Your Home

Buying a murti is not like buying regular home decor. It is a personal decision that comes with a few practical questions. Which deity suits which space? What material is best for a home mandir? Is it fine to keep multiple idols together? We have answered the most common questions below to help you choose the right piece with confidence.

Which God Idol is Best for Home

There is no single right answer because different deities serve different purposes in a home. Here is a simple guide based on what most families in India follow:

  • Ganesha is placed at the entrance or in the mandir. He is the first deity to be worshipped and is considered auspicious for new beginnings.
  • Laxmi is placed in the mandir or the living room facing east or north. She is worshipped for wealth, prosperity, and good fortune.
  • Radha Krishna works well in the living room or bedroom. The idol brings a sense of peace and devotion to the space.
  • Shiva is placed in the mandir facing east. A Shivling or Shiva murti is common in homes that follow Shaivite traditions.
  • Hanuman is ideally placed near the main entrance facing south, as it is believed to ward off negative energy.
  • Ram Darbar is placed inside the mandir. It represents the complete family of Lord Ram and is a popular choice for devoted households.

What Materials Are Used in Our Murtis

We work with three main materials at Manobhav.

Marble dust is our most popular choice. It gives the idol a clean, white, stone-like finish that looks beautiful in any home. The surface is smooth and the level of carving detail is high. Marble dust murtis are lighter than real stone and easier to handle.

Semiprecious stones like rose quartz, lapis lazuli, malachite, and green aventurine are used for a more distinct and premium look. Each stone has a different colour and texture, which makes every idol completely unique. These are often chosen as gifts because they feel rare and special.

Silver plated murtis have a traditional look that many families in India connect with. The silver finish is done by hand over a base material, and the detailing is fine and intricate. These work well in mandirs and also make excellent gifting choices for weddings, housewarmings, and Diwali.

Can You Keep Multiple God Idols Together

Yes, you can keep multiple murtis in your mandir or pooja space. Most Indian homes have at least two or three deities together. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Avoid placing more than three to four idols if the space is small
  • All murtis should face outward toward the worshipper
  • Broken or chipped idols should not be kept in the mandir
  • Idols of the same deity but different sizes should not be kept together

God Idols as Gifts

A handcrafted murti makes one of the most thoughtful gifts you can give. It is personal, meaningful, and lasting. At Manobhav, our murtis are packaged carefully in premium gift boxes, making them ready to give without any extra effort on your part.

They are popular choices for housewarming gifts, wedding gifts, Diwali gifts, and Navratri gifts. If you are buying for someone else and are not sure which deity to choose, Ganesha and Laxmi together or a Radha Krishna idol are always well received.
